The Numbers and Royal Gorge rafting sections of the Arkansas River Now Open

The epic 2011 Colorado white water rafting season continues with the opening of The Numbers and Royal Gorge sections of the Arkansas River. Flows on the Arkansas River are dropping fast so book one of these advanced white water rafting trips while the water is still high. Full and half day Numbers and Royal Gorge white water rafting trips depart daily from our Buena Vista and Canon City, Colorado locations respectively. The Arkansas River peaked at more than 4,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) on July 11, 2011 – more than a month later than normal – but has since dropped to 2,330 (cfs) in The Numbers (NOW OPEN), 2,650 (cfs) in Browns Canyon, and 2,680 (cfs) in Bighorn Sheep Canyon and the Royal Gorge (NOW OPEN).
If you are looking for the best advanced white water in the state of Colorado, check out The Numbers or the Royal Gorge at high water. Now is the optimal time when the water is not too high and not too low.

Family-friendly flows through Browns Canyon and Bighorn Sheep Canyon

As the flows drop on the Arkansas River in Colorado, our intermediate white water sections become more family-friendly than when flows were extremely high. If you are looking for a family-friendly white water rafting trip in Colorado, ask about our Family Float, Browns Canyon or Bighorn Sheep Canyon Arkansas River trips. Parties with young children or people with physical limitations should consider an oar boat. Please discuss this option with a white water professional at time of booking or check-in.

Hurry, these flows on the Arkansas River won’t last long

We do expect the water levels to drop significantly as we approach the latter half of July and early part of August, so you should book now to experience these historic flows before it is too late. Flows will be above average for the remainder of the season, however, so you will not be disappointed if you are unable to plan your rafting trip until late August or early September. River Runners will be booking Colorado white water rafting trips on the Arkansas River through Labor Day, 2011, but it is never too early to reserve your raft, especially if you have a large group.
