Experience Whitewater Rafting and Much More in Colorado this Memorial Day Weekend
Get the Colorado whitewater rafting season started this Memorial Day weekend. Paddle Fest is kicking off, the Riverside Grill is opening and the Arkansas River is flowing, which means it’s a great time to leave town and get up to the mountains.
Riverside Grill Grand Opening
Friday, May 24
The Riverside Grill at River Runners in Buena Vista is set to open this Friday. Relax riverside – after your Browns Canyon or Numbers rafting trip – with local beers on tap, hand-crafted margaritas, the famous River Rummer and delicious Baja-style food. A Kids menu is also available.
CKS Paddle Fest 2013

Paddle Fest is the kick-off paddling event for the Upper Arkansas River Valley. Enjoy interactive and hands-on experiences for you and your family. Thousands of participants gather to learn, share and celebrate the paddling season in Colorado. This annual community event features flat-water clinics, on-water education, river competitions, multi-sport races, free demos and many other events including live music. Proceeds from Paddle Fest benefit The Boys & Girls Clubs of Chaffee County.
Race to the Grill
Monday, May 27
River Runners will be hosting the CKS Paddle Fest Race to the Grill on Memorial Day, which is a fun downriver race through the class II Milk Run section of the Arkansas River. This is a four mile sprint race that is open to rafts, kayaks, duckies and stand-up-paddle boards.
Registration for the Race to the Grill is at 11:00 am at River Runners and a free shuttle will be provided to Johnson’s Village where the race begins.
Royal Gorge Rafting
The River Runners Royal Gorge Rafting Center is open for half day and full day rafting trips through the Royal Gorge and the Bighorn Sheep Canyon. Space is still available, but it is best to book at least several days in advance to ensure availability.
