Independence Day weekend is fast approaching and the Arkansas River is still running at stout 3,280 cubic feet per second (cfs) in the Numbers (closed), 3,500 cfs in Browns Canyon, and 3,660 cfs in Bighorn Sheep Canyon and the Royal Gorge (closed) – as of June 29, 2011. With the high water all around the state of Colorado this summer, there is no better time to educate our youth about the hazards of rivers and streams. Our guides have been busy conducting Boy Scout White water Rafting Merit Badges nearly every day at our Riverside Resort in Buena Vista, Colorado this June and we are lined up for a busy July. All River Runners merit badge guides hold BSA certifications in Safety Afloat, Safe Swim Defense, and Youth Protection in addition to CPR/First Aid, and the completion of river guide school. Group camping is available, but limited, so book today if you have a large Boy Scout troop you want to take rafting this July or August.
