Fourth of July Fireworks on the Arkansas River in Colorado

Independence Day weekend is fast approaching and the Arkansas River is still running at stout 3,280 cubic feet per second (cfs) in the Numbers (closed), 3,500 cfs in Browns Canyon, and 3,660 cfs in Bighorn Sheep Canyon and the Royal Gorge (closed) – as of June 29, 2011. River Runners has successfully guided 6,361 guests down the Arkansas River this 2011 Colorado white water rafting season and we are just getting into the busy time of year.

Colorado Fire Bans

Chaffee and Fremont Counties are in class 2 fire bans – so no open fires, smoking outdoors, or fireworks this 4th of July, but the hot and dry weather and high water level is excellent for white water rafting.

Don’t miss these historic flows this Fourth of July weekend. The water temperature of the Upper Arkansas River is a refreshing 52 degrees (f), and feels just about right with the hot air temperatures we have been experiencing in Colorado (wetsuits are still recommended). River Runners offers beginner, intermediate and advanced white water rafting trips with several launch times every day throughout the 2011 Arkansas River season from our Buena Vista, Colorado and Canon City, Colorado white water rafting locations.
