If you are craving tranquility and unique excitement this summer, explore Dinosaur National Monument on the Yampa River – the last major free flowing river in the Colorado River System. Each spring, the Yampa River runs wild and free as snow melts off the nearby Rocky Mountains, creating legendary rapids with an average decent of 12-14 feet per mile.
The scenery along this 5-day, 72-mile stretch of the Yampa River is like nothing you’ve experienced. Marvel at the beauty of “Tiger Wall” with its amazing streaks of desert varnish towering 2,000 feet above you at rivers edge. Also, the confluence at Echo Park, where the Yampa River meets the Green River, provides 180-degree views of beautiful Steamboat Rock.
This area is also rich in history. First inhabitants were primitive cultures, moving onto Native Americans, miners and homesteader’s of the 1800’s. During your 5-day journey, you will visit ancient Native American sites and historical places of interest complete with interpretive talks by your River Guides, explaining further some of settlement history and impact they had on the area.
Because the Yampa River flows freely, reliant on winter snowmelt, the season can be short and high in demand. Rafting the Yampa typically is May and June each season, considered late-spring, so be prepared for a range of warm to cool desert temperatures.
The Yampa River has been selected by Historians and Geologists alike as the most remarkable river expedition that combines unmatched scenery and thrilling white water rafting in one amazing stretch of river.
Adrift Adventures provides all-inclusive and eco-friendly rafting adventures through Dinosaur National Monument. Trips are limited, so reserve your space today on this extraordinary white water rafting trip of a lifetime.
