EDUCATIONAL RAFTING TRIP LODORE CANYON ON THE GREEN RIVER
This is a unique learning whitewater rafting trip designed especially for people who love American western history, Indian cultures and the beauty of rafting through sandstone, wilderness river canyons.
Join Fort Lewis College Southwest Studies and History Professor Dr. Andrew Gulliford in retracing the exciting 1869 journey of Major John Wesley Powell on his exploration of the Green River, the largest tributary of the Colorado River. Participants will stop at sites he visited, view landmarks he named, and learn of the harrowing events that transpired.
Historians consider the Powell journey to be the first documented, and one of the most intriguing western river expeditions. Engaging lectures by Dr. Andrew Gulliford will discuss how the journeys of Powell and other early river runners left an environmental legacy. Everyone will learn western, Indian and environmental history.
The 4-day adventure covers 44 miles on the Green River where brilliant red walls expose 1.5 billion years of
geological history. This area is all preserved in Dinosaur National Monument, one of the nation’s most pristine and least crowded National Parks. The tour is a complete convenient package which includes licensed professional guides, complete catered meals, and all necessary rafting equipment. No previous rafting experience is required.
This is a remote, pristine wilderness in the heart of Dinosaur National Monument, Utah. Since the canyon is roadless, we bring all food and gear on the rafts to undeveloped camps each night. Adrift provides transportation from the meeting place to the start of the river trip, and then from Split Mountain back to the Adrift Adventures store at trips end. Professional guides and all boating related equipment are provided, including one watertight duffle bag per person to carry personal gear.
All meals from first day to last day lunch are included. No previous rafting experience is required. Minimum age is 7 years.
