Hiking trails and walking paths meander through giant red colored sandstone rock formations that truly live up to the name. If it fits the budget, it is worth the small fee ($5/adult and $3/child) to see the HD theatre presentation of the movie “How Did Those Red Rocks Get There” at the Visitor Center, but the best part is walking, hiking, biking or horseback riding among these majestic rock formations. Enjoy more than 15 miles of trail within the park that range from concrete walking paths to rugged trails. The Visitor Center also has free maps and 30 interactive displays describing the history of Garden of the Gods.

Garden of the Gods Trading Post

Stop in at the historic Garden of the Gods Trading Post, which was built in the early 1920’s by Charles E. Strausenback to resemble the homes of Pueblo Indians. The idea was to showcase Pueblo structures for people from the east who didn’t have the opportunity to visit the rest of the southwest. Pueblo Indians were hired to perform native dances and to make baskets and pottery. Navajos were also hired to weave blankets and make jewelry. The Trading Post has expanded six times since 1979, but much of the original structure and design remain today. It is now the largest trading post in the state and has a large selection of Native American arts and crafts for sale. Check out the Balance Rock Café during summer.
